The eating contests: cake and milk tea

The headline events are the two contests. On Saturday 17 October at 5:00 PM it’s a cake-eating contest, and on Monday 19 October at 6:00 PM it’s a milk tea drinking contest. The winner of each takes home a prize worth 1,000,000 VND (about US$38). They’re fun to watch even if you don’t take part, so grab a spot near the stage early. If you want to join, we couldn’t find an online sign-up, so ask at the mall’s information desk on the day about how to register and any rules.

Sunday workshops: coffee, cupcakes and kẹo hồ lô

On Sunday 18 October from 10:30 AM, the mall runs three hands-on workshops: coffee making, cupcake decorating and kẹo hồ lô, the shiny candied fruit skewers (often strawberries or grapes coated in a hard sugar glaze) that have become a big street-snack trend in Vietnam. It’s a nice, low-key morning for families with kids or for couples who want to make something together. Spaces may be limited, so arrive early and check at the information desk.

Yosakoi dance, mascot parade, fashion show and kids’ talent show

Yosakoi is an energetic Japanese festival dance, performed in groups with colourful costumes and wooden clappers called naruko, so it fits right in at a Japanese mall. Alongside it there’s a mascot parade through the mall, a fashion show and a kids’ talent show where local children sing and perform on stage. These are free to watch. The exact times are on the event boards inside the mall, and they can change, so take a photo of the board when you arrive.

AEON Mall Da Nang Thanh Khe is a four-floor, roughly 30,000 m² mall with a big AEON supermarket, about 50–60 shops and restaurants, a Galaxy Cinema, and the Timezone and Kid’s Box Jumbo play areas. It opened on 1 July 2026 (with the grand opening ceremony on 3 July), and about half of its brands are new to Da Nang. Even without the events, it’s an easy half-day, especially on a hot or rainy afternoon.

  • Shopping: brands include UNIQLO (its first Da Nang store), MUJI, JINS, Lacoste, Nike, Adidas and Charles & Keith.
  • AEON supermarket: a large “super supermarket” with TOPVALU own-brand products, AEON Delica ready meals, AEON Bakery and AEON Sushi. It’s a good place to stock up on snacks, Vietnamese coffee and gifts at fixed prices.
  • Food and drink: Marugame Udon, Starbucks, KFC and Gogi House, plus cafés and dessert shops around the mall.
  • Cinema: Galaxy Cinema has 6 screens and 553 seats, with Dolby Vision + Atmos.
  • For kids: the Timezone games arcade and the Kid’s Box Jumbo indoor playground.
