Han Market Da Nang (Chợ Hàn): 2nd Floor Shopping, Áo Dài in 1–2 Hours & Tips (2026)

Last updated: 20 October 2026

Han Market (Chợ Hàn) is the most famous market in Da Nang, right in the city centre by the Han River. Downstairs you will find snacks, dried fruit, souvenirs, conical hats and food stalls. Upstairs is my favourite part: the 2nd floor, where you can order an áo dài or a dress and pick it up 1–2 hours later, for much less than you would pay in Hoi An or in a shop on the street. Here is what is on each floor, what to buy and how to shop it like a local.

In this guide: Quick facts · Floor by floor · 2nd floor · Áo dài in 1–2 hours · What to buy · Food stalls · Shopping tips · FAQ

Han Market floor by floor

Walk in under the “Welcome to Han Market” sign and the whole market opens up around a central atrium. From the balcony upstairs you can look down on the ground floor: rows of stalls stacked with colourful packets, coconut candy and souvenirs.

Ground floor: snacks, souvenirs, hats and the food court

This is where most visitors spend their time. You will find dried mango and other dried fruit, coconut candy (kẹo dừa), local snacks in gift packs, bamboo and lacquer souvenirs, conical hats (nón lá), rattan bags, cute toys and fridge magnets. Souvenirs and nón lá are cheap here, but always bargain.

The 2nd floor: Da Nang’s hidden shopping paradise

Most visitors never make it past the snacks downstairs, but the 2nd floor is where Han Market really shines. Here is what you will find upstairs:

  • Clothes and ready-to-wear: everyday fashion, stylish outfits and, above all, made-to-measure áo dài for about 400,000–1,000,000 VND a set, depending on the fabric. You can usually pick it up the same day.
  • Fabric: every kind you can think of, from áo dài fabric and silk to cotton and fabric for everyday clothes.
  • Shoes and bags: fashion shoes, flat sandals, handbags, wallets, sedge bags and handwoven bags.
  • Souvenirs: sedge, rattan and bamboo handicrafts and small gifts with a local touch.

Walking the 2nd floor

Take the stairs up and it is clothes, clothes, clothes: summer dresses, shirts, kids’ clothes and whole walls of fabric. Further in are the tailors, row after row of small workshops with sewing machines, cutting tables and ready-made áo dài on mannequins.

My favourite part: an áo dài made in 1–2 hours

The 2nd floor is the reason I keep going back to Han Market. You can order an áo dài or a dress, go shopping downstairs, and pick it up 1–2 hours later. An áo dài costs about 400,000–1,000,000 VND a set depending on the fabric, which is very cheap compared with Hoi An’s tailors or the shops on the street.

  1. Pick your fabric. Every stall has rolls of silk, cotton and printed fabric, or you can choose a ready-made áo dài and have it altered.
  2. Get measured. The tailor measures you and cuts the fabric by hand at the counter.
  3. Shop while you wait. It is sewn right there in the stall, usually ready in 1–2 hours.
  4. Come back for a fitting. Try it on and ask for small changes before you pay.

Tip: bring a photo of the style you want, and agree on the price and pick-up time before they cut the fabric.

The food court (ground floor)

If you get hungry, head to the food court on the ground floor: rows of counters serving phở, bún bò Huế, bún thịt nướng and Da Nang’s bánh tráng thịt heo (pork with rice paper), plus counters for smoothies and chè. It is simple, quick and a handy break between floors.

Han Market shopping tips

These tips matter most on the 2nd floor, but they work everywhere in the market:

  1. Bargain. Prices, especially upstairs, often start higher than they should. Offer about 40–50% below the first price and meet in the middle, with a smile.
  2. Compare 2–3 stalls first. Walk around and ask prices at a few stalls before you buy, so you know the going rate.
  3. Choose stalls with clear price tags. Many shoppers prefer stalls that show their prices, so there is less haggling to do.
  4. Watch souvenir prices. Some souvenir stalls mainly serve foreign tourists, so their prices can be higher.
  5. Keep your valuables close. Aisles get crowded, so keep your phone, wallet and bags in front of you.
  6. Go between 8 AM and 6 PM. Every stall is open, and mornings are calmer than afternoons, when tour groups arrive.
  7. Order your áo dài first, then shop while it is being made.
  8. Combine it with the riverfront. The Han River promenade and the Dragon Bridge are a short walk away.
