Da Nang Visa Guide 2026: E-Visa, Visa-Free Entry & Arrival Tips

Quick answer: Da Nang follows Vietnam’s national visa rules. Citizens of 24 European and Asian countries can visit visa-free for up to 45 days, most ASEAN citizens get 14–30 days, and Chile and Panama get 90 days. Everyone else, including US, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, Indian and Chinese citizens, needs a visa, usually the official e-visa from evisa.gov.vn: valid up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, US$25 or US$50, and accepted at Da Nang International Airport (DAD).
Do you need a visa to visit Da Nang?
There is no separate visa for Da Nang; you need permission to enter Vietnam. Whether you need a visa depends on your passport, how long you stay, and whether you plan to leave and re-enter. Entry conditions for visa-free visitors: your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date and have at least 2 blank pages. You may also be asked for proof of onward or return travel. The old rule requiring a 30-day gap between two visa-free visits no longer applies, but immigration officers can still refuse entry.
How do you apply for a Vietnam e-visa?
Apply only on the official government portal, evisa.gov.vn (Vietnam National Electronic Visa system, run by the Vietnam Immigration Department).
⚠️ Warning: avoid fake e-visa websites
Many travellers get scammed by unofficial websites that look like the government portal but charge two to five times the real fee, sell “express” services you don’t need, or never deliver a valid visa. Protect yourself:
- Type the address yourself: go directly to evisa.gov.vn. The official site ends in .gov.vn.
- Skip “Sponsored” search results: when you search “Vietnam e-visa”, the top results marked Sponsored or Ad are usually private agencies paying to appear above the official site. Do not click them.
- Check the price: the official fee is only US$25 (single entry) or US$50 (multiple entry), charged in Vietnamese dong. Any site asking for more is not the government.
- Be wary of look-alike names: addresses ending in .com, .org or .net with “vietnam-visa” or “evisa” in the name are not official, even if they use the Vietnamese flag or national emblem.
- Paid a fake site? Contact your bank or card provider straight away to dispute the charge, then apply again on the official portal.
Once you are on the official site:
- Go to the official portal and choose the e-visa application for foreigners.
- Upload a scan of your passport photo page and a recent portrait photo (4×6, white background, no glasses).
- Enter your arrival date, entry port (choose Da Nang International Airport) and exit port.
- Choose single or multiple entry and pay the fee online by card.
- Save your registration code and check your status. Processing usually takes about 3–5 working days.
- Download and print the approved e-visa and carry it with your passport.
Common e-visa mistakes to avoid
Small errors on the application are the most common reason travellers are refused at the airport or have to apply again. Before you submit:
- Apply early: submit at least 2 weeks before your flight, and longer around Tết (Lunar New Year) and other public holidays, when processing slows down.
- Double-check your passport number: it must match your passport exactly. One wrong digit or letter makes the e-visa invalid, and it cannot be corrected, so you would have to apply and pay again.
- Match your name and details exactly: full name, date of birth and nationality must be written exactly as in your passport.
- Choose an entry date 2–3 days before your flight: you cannot enter Vietnam before the start date on your e-visa, and your stated entry date must not be later than the arrival date on your flight ticket. Picking a start date 2–3 days earlier gives you a buffer if your flight is moved earlier or you change plans. Just remember the visa’s validity starts counting from that date.
- Select the right entry port: choose Da Nang International Airport if you are flying into Da Nang.
- Upload clear photos: a sharp, glare-free passport scan and a recent portrait with a white background help avoid delays.
- Check your approved e-visa as soon as it arrives: errors do happen, and in some cases travellers have received an e-visa with the wrong entry (arrival) or exit (departure) dates. Before you fly, compare it carefully with your passport and flight tickets:
- Validity dates: does the “from” date fall on or before your arrival, and the “to” date on or after your departure?
- Passport number, full name, date of birth and nationality
- Single or multiple entry, as you requested
- Entry port (Da Nang International Airport)
How much does a Vietnam e-visa cost?
The official government fee is US$25 for single entry and US$50 for multiple entry, charged in Vietnamese dong at the current exchange rate. The fee is non-refundable, even if your application is rejected. Sites that charge more are private agencies, not the government. Always pay on evisa.gov.vn.
Do you need a Vietnam Digital Arrival Card?
Yes. Foreign passport holders entering Vietnam at Da Nang (DAD), Hanoi Noi Bai (HAN), Ho Chi Minh City Tan Son Nhat (SGN) or Cam Ranh (CXR) international airports need to complete a free online Digital Arrival Card (pre-arrival declaration), according to Vietnam Airlines. Travellers who have completed it use a priority lane at immigration (the “Pre-arrival Information” counter), so it also saves you time in the queue. One exception: visa-exempt travellers entering at Tan Son Nhat and connecting straight on to Phu Quoc don’t need it. It does not replace your visa: it is an extra step, checked separately at immigration.
Official website: prearrival.immigration.gov.vn, run by the Vietnam Immigration Department. The form is completely free.
How to fill in the Digital Arrival Card
- Open the official site: go to prearrival.immigration.gov.vn (or scan the official QR code displayed at the airport) and click “Create & Submit Pre-arrival Information”. The form only accepts an arrival date of today or the next 2 days, so do it 1–2 days before your flight (not earlier).
- Choose your language: tap the language menu in the top-right corner. The site is available in 12 languages, including English, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, French, Spanish and Russian.
- Create your declaration and fill in the required details:
- Personal and passport details. You can upload a photo of your passport and the system reads it automatically.
- Flight details: the flight number of your arrival flight into Vietnam.
- Accommodation: the name and address of your first hotel or place to stay in Vietnam.
- A working email address: the system sends a verification code and your confirmation there.
- Get your QR code: when you submit, the system issues a confirmation QR code. Save it (screenshot or print) and show it with your passport at the immigration counter. You will also receive a confirmation email and can download the full declaration as a PDF. Made a mistake? Use “Lookup & Update Declaration” on the same site to fix it.
⚠️ Beware of copycat sites: just like the e-visa, unofficial websites charge a fee to “process” the arrival card for you. The real form is free and only on prearrival.immigration.gov.vn. Skip any “Sponsored” search results.
What happens on arrival at Da Nang airport?
Show your passport, printed e-visa (or qualify visa-free) and your Digital Arrival Card QR code at immigration. Lines are longest when several international flights land together in the evening. Do foreigners need to register their stay in Vietnam?
Yes. Every foreigner staying in Vietnam must be registered with the police for temporary residence (khai báo tạm trú), and it is the accommodation provider’s legal duty to do it.
- Hotels, homestays and serviced apartments register you automatically. This is why reception asks for your passport at check-in and may take a photo or scan of it.
- Since 21 May 2026, all accommodation providers must use the Ministry of Public Security’s new single national system at tbltkbtt.bocongan.gov.vn (also available as an Android and iOS app). It replaces the old regional websites and the ASM software.
- Staying in a private home or with friends? Your host is responsible for registering you through the same system, or with the local police.
- Providers that fail to register guests, or register them late or incorrectly, can be fined, so expect every legitimate place to ask for your passport.
Can you extend your stay or do a visa run?
E-visa holders who need longer usually apply for a new visa; extensions inside Vietnam are possible in limited cases through a licensed agent. Visa-free visitors who leave and re-enter get a new visa-free period, subject to immigration discretion. Overstaying leads to fines and can affect future entry.

Is Da Nang’s visa policy different from the rest of Vietnam?
No. Da Nang uses Vietnam’s national entry rules.
Can US citizens visit Da Nang without a visa?
No. US citizens need a visa, most easily the e-visa from evisa.gov.vn, valid for up to 90 days.
Can I get a visa on arrival at Da Nang airport?
Visa on arrival requires a pre-approved approval letter arranged in advance and is used much less now that the e-visa exists. For most travellers the e-visa from evisa.gov.vn is simpler and cheaper.
How early should I apply for the e-visa?
Apply at least 2 weeks before your flight, and earlier around Tết and other public holidays. Choose an entry date 2–3 days before your flight so a schedule change does not leave you with an invalid visa.
What should I do if my e-visa has the wrong dates?
Check your e-visa as soon as it arrives. If the entry or exit dates, passport number or name are wrong, contact the Vietnam Immigration Department through the official portal and have it corrected before you fly. If it cannot be fixed in time, apply for a new e-visa. Never travel on an e-visa with wrong details.
Do I need to fill in an arrival card for Da Nang?
Yes. Foreign visitors arriving at Da Nang International Airport need to complete the free Digital Arrival Card at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn up to 2 days before you land, then show the QR code at immigration together with your passport and visa.
Do children need their own visa?
Yes. Every traveller with their own passport, including children, needs their own visa or visa-free eligibility.
Why does my hotel keep my passport details?
Vietnamese law requires hotels and homestays to register foreign guests’ temporary residence with the police. They need your passport details to do this.
What is the official Vietnam e-visa website?
The only official website is evisa.gov.vn. Ignore “Sponsored” search results and any site charging more than US$25 or US$50: those are private agencies, and some are scams.
Is a multiple-entry e-visa worth it?
